Don't Let Stress Get The Best Of You

Stress. There is so much we can say about it but instead, why not talk about how it shouldn’t get the best of you. Unfortunately, stress is an everyday part of life and a day without stress is like winning the lottery. It’s common to become stressed out due to work, the kids, family, or friends but no matter what contributes to your stress, there is a way to deal! That’s right! Stress should not get the best of you and we’re here to tell you that it’s okay to be stressed out but it’s also okay to combat your stress. Stress DOESN’T have to exist all the time. And it’s important to alleviate stress when possible because it can pose potential health problems in the future such as headaches, anxiety, or insomnia; and it’s about time we start valuing our sleep! So, although we can’t completely escape the stress of daily living, we can still learn to manage it better.

It’s important to aim for some balance in your life. Now I’m sure you’re asking “How can I aim for balance in life if I’m stressed out about not having enough time in the day to tackle everything I need to do?” And here is your answer: when you balance the different aspects of your daily life, you’re more inclined to get more done. Make time for activities with the people you enjoy being with and you will soon feel your stress levels going down. Think about it, when you focus most of your day on work, your stress levels are through the roof. When you allow time for other parts other than work, you will tend to feel more at ease and be ready to tackle something else.

Here’s a big one: It’s OKAY to say no! Repeat after me, “NO. NO. NO.” See that was easy wasn’t it? Sometimes we spread ourselves too thin and end up taking on much more than we’re capable of handling. To avoid feeling overwhelmed, you should set realistic priorities and say no to things that you know will push you beyond your limits. And if you are feeling overwhelmed, take on thing at a time. Trying to tackle everything at once can become a big contributor to your stress levels. Focus on one thing at a time and give it all you’ve got and you will do it well. That sense of accomplishment will put things into perspective.

When you’re stressed out, the best thing you can do is just relax. That might sound sacrilegious but you’ll thank yourself later. Take a yoga class or get a massage; anything that will help you relax and get rid of that tense feeling. Taking walks and appreciating the outdoors can also help. Getting swept up by a good book may be just what the doctor ordered. Everyone has a different escape so don’t be afraid to find yours.
